11/19/2025 - Affordable Housing Input

“Your Input is Desired!

As part of the update to the Town of Canton Affordable Housing Plan, we are seeking to provide information to the public and to obtain input from the public.  This process has included two public workshops (recordings and presentations available here).

As discussed at the end of the most recent workshop, we are seeking additional participation from the public through the attached take home activity. The goal of this exercise is to gather thoughts on how different housing options might fit into our community. The scenarios included in this packet show a range of development styles, scales, and site layouts. Their purpose is to help us understand what residents value as we plan for future housing needs.

Each scenario includes basic information such as the size of the site, number of homes, building footprint, amount of green space, height, and parking. These examples give you a chance to react to different combinations of density and design. There is no right or wrong answer. We want to learn what feels appropriate, what raises concerns, and what elements you think work well.

As you review the drawings, please consider questions like:

Does the amount of housing shown feel too much, too little, or about right?
Is the balance between buildings, landscaping, and paved areas what you would hope to see?
How do you feel about the building heights?
Is the parking layout reasonable?
Are there design features that make one scenario feel more appealing than another?

The final page before the comment sheet shows height comparisons to help you picture how these buildings relate to each other and to typical surroundings.

When you finish reviewing the materials, please share your comments. You may use the comment sheet provided or simply send an email that indicates your comments on each of the scenarios. Please send your responses to Neil Pade, Director of Planning and Community Development at npade@townofcantonct.org by no later than Thursday, December 4, at noon.

Paper copies are also available at, and may be submitted to, the Land Use Office, 2nd Floor of the Town Hall, 4 Market Street, Collinsville.

We appreciate your willingness to share your perspective. Your input is an important part of understanding how our community views different forms of housing, and it will help shape future planning strategies in the months ahead.
