Library Summer Aide
The Canton Public Library seeks Summer Aides for Children’s and Teen Services. This is a temporary, part-time position which requires library and children’s programming experience and is excellent training for high school graduates pursuing a career in libraries or education.
Responsibilities of the position include: helping to prepare, present and clean up children’s and teen library programs; working at library service desks answering questions from patrons, assisting with computers, and helping patrons with the summer reading program; assisting with collection maintenance and displays; performing other duties as requested or assigned.
We are hiring 2-3 aides, for a period from mid-June through August. Positions will have regular hours, for 15-35 hours/week depending on availability, with possibility of extra hours to fill in for other staff absences or to work at special programs. Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and Saturdays (10am-1pm). $15.60 per hour; no benefits.
Requirements: High School diploma with experience working with children and/or teens. Familiarity with children’s or teen literature preferred. Strong computer skills a must. Must be able to learn routine library procedures, follow oral and written instructions, and communicate clearly and courteously with co-workers and the public.
