Senior and Social Services

Town of Canton >> Departments >> Senior and Social Services >> Senior and Social Services

In consultation with Town of Canton leadership and the Farmington Valley Health District, we have made the decision to close the Canton Senior Center to the public effective Monday, March 16, 2020 indefinitely. We do not make this decision lightly. We are committed to serving our community even in the most difficult of situations, but at this time the best thing we can do for you is to close our doors and do our part to help slow the community transmission of COVID-19. Staff will still be working while the Senior Center is closed and will be available to help by E-mail or phone call.

*Starting Friday 3/20/2020 Canton Senior Center will offer CRT’s “Grab and Go” Lunches. If you want a lunch THIS FRIDAY 3/20/2020 please call our office no later than tomorrow, 3/18/2020 to reserve your meal. Going Forward, Seniors must call at the beginning of the week, Monday by 12-noon to reserve their lunch for Wednesday and/or Friday each week, *If we do not answer, Please leave a message.**

*All AARP Tax appointments have been cancelled indefinitely.  Please see the attached AARP Tax Aide Program Suspension Letter

*There is a supply shortage on many grocery store items including, but not limited to: toilet paper, paper towels, OTC medications, cleaning supplies, etc. The Social Services Office will do their best to coordinate with our Community Partners to assist those in need of these items if they become available.

We encourage you to follow all guidelines to keep yourselves and your community healthy: wash your hands frequently and thoroughly; stay home when you are sick except to get medical care; clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces and objects; maintain a 3-6 foot distance from other people when out in public; and keep abreast of current federal, state, and local guidelines from the CDC (cdc.gov), the Connecticut Department of Public Health (ct.gov/coronavirus), and the Farmington Valley Health District (www.fvhd.org).

This situation is a challenge for all of us. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we navigate through this unprecedented time, and we look forward to seeing you all again once we are able to re-open.

Be Well,
Jessica DeMeo
Senior & Social Services Director
