Canton and the Farmington Valley

The Farmington River, one of the nation’s most beautiful freshwater streams (dubbed a “flyfishing mecca” by the Orvis Company), runs more than seven miles through Canton. The river runs roughly 47 miles through a number of Connecticut towns, but the Farmington Valley traditionally encompasses the towns of New Hartford, Barkhamsted, Farmington, Granby, Simsbury, Avon, and Canton. The Valley towns offer a combination of suburban amenities (diverse retail options, quality public education and services, proximity to cultural and social activities) and access to outdoor activities and agricultural environments. Many people who live in the Valley towns hike, bike, fish, kayak, and walk regularly.
