11/17/2021 - Fritz G. Lofgren


YOUR SILENT NEIGHBORS, Fritz G. Lofgren, Timekeeper

Born in Avon just over the Canton line, Fritz G. Lofgren (1887-1959) spent his whole life in the area.  He went to Collinsville High School and worked for many years as a Collins Company timekeeper.  Lofgren served on the Avon Board of Education, Board of Assessors and in other public offices.  He was also superintendent of the Collinsville Cemetery Association. 

Lofgren was a committed Mason and joined the Village Lodge AF&FM in Collinsville in 1902 where he was secretary from 1905 to 1911, and again from 1918 to 1951.  He was worshipful master in 1916.  Well known in throughout Connecticut in Masonic circles, he served in various offices for other Masonic organizations.  He was a 32nd Degree Mason.  In 1955, he was awarded the Pierpont Edwards Medal for distinguished Masonic service. 

A life member of Eclectic Lodge, IOOF (Independent Order of Odd Fellows), at 81 years of age he was also said to be one of the oldest members of the Collinsville Congregational Church.  He died at his home on Huckleberry Hill. 

Lofgren’s funeral, including a Masonic service, was held at the Gordon Ventres Funeral Home on The Green in Collinsville. 

Fritz G. Lofgren is buried in the Village Cemetery, Collinsville.
