LOCAL SHUTTERED TOURISM GRANT PROGRAM
The Town of Canton has approved a $70,000 Local Shuttered Tourism Grant program to support nonprofit organizations that have faced economic hardship resulting from or exacerbated by the public health emergency. The funding comes from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Such grants could include funds to cover a loss of earnings, decline in revenues, or impacts of cancelled fundraising events during periods of closure or limited operations due to public health orders or unexpected expenses related to an increased demand for services or mitigation efforts to contain the spread of COVID. The Local Shuttered Tourism Grant program is designed to support organizations, programs, and activities that benefit Canton residents and help to support local tourism.
For purposes of this program, an eligible nonprofit must have fewer than 10 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees and must have operations in Canton or significantly serve the Canton community.
Eligible nonprofit organizations may apply for grants of up to $20,000. Funding is limited and it is anticipated that requests for assistance will be greater than funding on hand. Not all nonprofits approved for participation may receive the maximum amount. If awarded, the amount will be based upon the documented need of the nonprofit.
Listed below are some of the uses that these funds can be used for. This is not an exhaustive list and other uses will be considered.
• Payroll costs
• Mortgage
• Rent
• Utilities
• Operational expenses
• Specific investment to enhance the viability of the organization
• Innovative community marketing program
• Facility improvements
