7/1/2014 - Murphy & Esty to Announce Passage of Collinsville Dam Legislation- July 1st

Senator Murphy and Rep. Esty to Announce Passage of Collinsville Dam Legislation
Elected Officials Will Discuss Next Steps for Reactivating the Dams

On Tuesday, July 1, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy and U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) will join Canton First Selectman Richard Barlow in announcing the passage of the Collinsville Renewable Energy Promotion Act into federal law. The Collinsville Renewable Energy Promotion Act permits the town of Canton to operate two currently inactive hydropower dams and generate locally-produced power.

Murphy, Esty, and Barlow will also announce next steps for reactivating the dams, which are expected to produce nearly two megawatts of power, enough to power more than 1,500 homes.

Please join us tomorrow at 10am near the old powerhouse at the intersection of Torrington Ave and Bridge Street at the Sergeant Michael Dubiel Memorial Bridge.  Parking is available at the Canton Town Hall, 4 Market St. Collinsville.
