5/26/2014 - Memorial Day Parade Info and Traffic Advisory - May 26

The Canton Memorial Day Parade is scheduled for May 26th at 10am.

For many years Mitch Bialicki has coordinated both the parade and the services at the Collinsville Cemetery.  Mitch has relinquished those duties this year and the Town will be organizing the events.  In honor of Mitch’s service, we will be naming him the Grand Marshal of this year’s Memorial Day Parade.

Over the last several years, the number of Veterans participating in the Parade has decreased. We understand that many of the older Veterans may not be up to marching.  For that reason we would like to offer Veterans both the opportunity to ride in the Parade and to be picked up prior to the event.  We plan to have the Community Center open to Veterans for coffee and donuts at 8:00 a.m. If you plan to participate in the Parade, need either/or both a ride in the Parade or be picked up prior to the event, please contact Claudia Nardi in the Town’s CAO Office at (860) 693-7841.

Last year with limited number of marchers there was difficulty assembling a Color Guard. If you plan to march and would consider participating in the Color Guard please let Claudia know. As a Veteran, you know how important it is to honor those who have sacrificed for our Country.

Other groups who would like to join the march are also welcome to join. Plan to gather at the Canton Intermediate School at 9:30am. The parade begins at 10am heading south on Dyer Ave; taking a right onto Maple Ave; taking a left onto Main Street; taking a right onto Center Street and proceeding to the Village Cemetery where a memorial service will be held.
