FREE GUARANTEED RIDES FOR CT TRANSIT EXPRESS BUS PASSENGERS Two guaranteed free rides home per year are now available to CTTRANSIT express bus monthly pass users, who may need to leave work in the middle of the day or work late, announced Acting State Transportation Commissioner James F. Sullivan. "Introduction of this new customer benefit is designed to reward our loyal express bus riders who purchase monthly passes and as an incentive to attract new passengers," said Sullivan. "it is another step forward in CTTRANSIT's intensified marketing program aimed at increasing ridership on the buses." The new benefit will provide free taxi service for riders who may need to go home unexpectedly in the middle of the day for some unforeseen reason, must stay late at the job, or miss the last bus to work in the morning. According to DOT's Transit and Ridesharing Administrator Michael A. Sanders, "It is easy to use. To arrange a ride, all an express service monthly pass user must do is call the Guaranteed Ride Program, Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and a cab will arrive in 20 minutes or less. This new service responds to the needs of the bus company's existing customers on one hand. On the other, it encourages those who are not riding the service to try it. The Guaranteed Free Ride Program should alleviate any fears about being stranded in the middle of the day and at night." The Guaranteed Free Ride program is available to monthly pass users who travel on CTTRANSIT express buses that connect downtown Hartford with the following locations: Avon/Canton, Corbins Corner (West Hartford), Buckland (Manchester), Enfield/Windsor Locks, Middletown/Cromwell, Newington, Unionville/Farmington, Century Hills (Rocky Hill), Glastonbury/St. Dunstans, Colchester/Marlborough, Granby/Simsbury/Bloomfield, Farm Springs and Bolton. CTTRANSIT General Manager David A. Lee said, "The beauty of the program is that it is there when the need arises. We do all the work for the customer. We even cover the cab driver's tip! This service only has been available to van- and carpool riders up till now. We expect the program to encourage those who are sitting in traffic during the peak of rush hour to consider CTTRANSIT's express service as a more realistic alternative. After all, there are no parking hassles. Using express service cuts down on automobile wear and tear. Insurance companies reduce premiums for transit users. Moreover, we have found that employers now are subsidizing the bus fare for 80 percent of our express service riders." For more information about the new Free Guaranteed Ride Program and CTTRANSIT's express service, please call the company's information specialists at 525-9181, for the hearing and speaking disabled using TTY only 727-8196, or email at hartfordinfo@cttransit.com. Brochures for the program will be distributed to all current CTTRANSIT express bus pass holders, and also may be obtained at the Company's Information and Sales Booth located in Old State House Square between Main and Market Streets. |
