Shirley Mae Neu, Artist

A note from the artist:
"My paintings reflect my passions for life and color. Spontaneous, creative endeavors have given birth to canvases filled with movement, joy, and a contemporary style that I feel gives my work a unique flair.
Risk taking and experimentation with a variety of mediums and techniques continues to lead me down new paths. The versatility of my endeavors reflects my belief that each day of my life is unique and a gift.
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Queens College, NY and earned my Art Education Certification from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT. I have held Art Educator positions within the West Hartford Public School system. I have also enjoyed working as an Art Activities Director at Renbrook School's Summer Adventure Camp in West Hartford.
I am on the Board of Canton Artists' Guild. In June 2009, one of the first Guild members inspired me to create a commenorative video in celebration of 50 years since the opening of the Gallery on the Green on August 7, 1960. The video premiered in July 2010 and is available for purchase at the Gallery."

Judy Lyons Gomby, Artist / Design Consultant

A note from the artist:
"I began my artistic endeavors as a child. I grew up painting, sketching and playing the piano as far back as I can remember. Throughout the vicissitudes of my life, the arts have always been the outlet that could soothe my soul.
At this point in my artistic career, I feel I have created a fusion of color, form and design influenced by nature and the tumultuous times in which we live. This has enabled me to create works which are visually stimulating yet have a voice which is heard through my use of color and design. Although much of my work is abstract, the spark that ignites my soul is nature and the world in which we all must coexist.
The pieces I have chosen for this show encompass the many psychological and emotional journeys of the past few years. I hope to inspire the viewer with the same sense of excitement and urgency I feel as I create these images."

Joe Hoke
Co-Founder, Mintz & Hoke Advertising
Currently Partner, Lawson & Hoke, LLC
Joe graduated from Pittsburgh Art Institute and worked as a designer / illustrator. His day job and night hobby was painting pictures.
Joe moved on from making pictures and co-founded Mintz & Hoke Advertising. Mintz & Hoke earned the reputation as the top creative advertising agency in Connecticut, and one of the most creative in New England. The agency became the largest in Connecticut and was featured in many national publications, such as The Wall Street Journal and Advertising Age.
In 1998, Joe sold Mintz & Hoke to the employees and co-founded a consulting firm, Lawson & Hoke. Joe now consults and has returned to his love of painting pictures.
The medium is acrylic paint. The goal is to capture atmosphere and light, not just a straightforward depiction of the scene. For example, what you see just after a rain, a foggy day in the hills, sun breaking through clouds and illuminating part of the landscape or sunlight and shadows on a building.
The scene it self is just the vehicle. It's all about the atmosphere and light.
