Dyer Farm, 1 Dyer Cemetery Road

This house was built by Samuel Wilcox in 1789 on a farm of six hundred acres. Over the years it had a sawmill; “silver mine” that produced small quantities of zinc, lead, copper and beryl; tannery; dairy operation; and cider mill. It was also a stage coach hotel that could accommodate twenty guests and forty horses. For most of the twentieth century, Margaret Dyer had a roadside business selling her famous salted nuts, fudge and homemade handkerchiefs.
