OLD FIREHOUSE-15 Front Street

The exact construction date of this nineteenth-century building and its first purpose are not certain. Like many buildings in the area, its foundation includes grindstones. By the turn of the twentieth century, executive vehicles were housed here. In the 1920s it became the Collins Company firehouse and was turned over to the newly formed Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department when the company was dissolved. This may be one of the few instances where a paid fire department has become volunteer. The building is town-owned and used by the board of education as a maintenance depot.
