Social Services Provided by the Town of Canton:
Counseling. Individual counseling on: finances, housing, retirement, personal and family problems, support home services, social security, and related areas. Information on the availability of local, state, and federal programs and resources. For assistance, call Alan Rosenberg, the Director of Social Services at 409-4346. Energy Assistance. Canton Emergency Fuel Bank is a program designed to assist families in meeting their fuel needs when all other sources of aid have been exhausted. For more information, contact Alan Rosenberg, Director of Social Services at 409-4346. Food Bank. The Canton Food Bank is available to help supplement a families food needs regardless of income. The food bank is located at the Trinity Episcopal Church on River Road in Collinsville and is open on Tuesdays from 9:30am to 11:30am. Donations of non-perishable food items and money are welcome. Arrangements must be made for donating perishable items. For more information, contact Peg Pinton at 693-2024. Health Services. The following services are available through Famrington Valley Visiting Nurses and Community Services: certified home health aides, clinics for blood pressure and foot care, dietitian, IV therapy, medical social worker, physical therapy, skilled nursing, speech therapy. Further information on these and other health services is available through Farmington Valley VNA at 651-3539. Meals on Wheels. Meals-on-wheels service is available to seniors, the handicapped and those in need of meals on a temporary basis following illness, surgery, personal injury, hospitalization or rehabilitation. This service is provided for Canton residents by McLean's Community Service. For more information on receiving meals-on-wheels or on volunteering as a driver for the program, call Ann Erickson at 658-370. Medicare Claims Service. This service is available through the Avon Social Services Department on an appointment basis. It is designed to assist local resident in the processing of Medicare Part B claims. Tax and Renters' Relief Circuit Breaker Program. This is a state grant program for persons 65 and over to assist in the payment of rent and utility bills and to provide tax relief. Further information on income limits and eligibility is available through the Town Assessor's office, 693-7842.
