If you receive a car bill for a car you were not expecting or didn't receive a bill for a car that you were expecting, please read the information sheet included with your bill(s) for a possible answer to these questions. TAX DUE DATES:Real Estate: July 1st and January 1st, You have up to and including August 1st and February 2nd to pay without penalty (if your bill is under $100, it is paid in only one installment in July) Motor Vehicle: July 1st, You have up to and including August 1st to pay without penalty Motor Vehicle Supplement: January 1st, You have up to and including February 2nd to pay without penalty Personal Property: July 1st and January 1st, You have up to and including August 1st and February 2nd to pay without penalty (if your bill is under $100, it is paid in only one installment in July) CURRENT GRAND LIST THAT IS BEING COLLECTED AT THIS TIME: The October 1, 2007 Grand List (covering October 1, 2007-September 30, 2008) CURRENT MILL RATE THROUGH JUNE 30, 2009: 30.43 (click here for a history of mill rates) CREDIT CARD PAYMENT - Credit card payments will be accepted over the phone by calling the office at 693-7843 or at the tax window beginning July 1, 2008. The company that is handling the credit card transactions, Point and Pay, charges a convenience fee for using this service. The fee is between 2 1/2% to 3% determined by the amount being charged. No part of this convenience fee is paid to the Town of Canton. This fee will be charged to your credit card at the same time as your tax payment. We will be able to tell you what the fee will be prior to you authorizing the charge. DO YOU OWE DELINQUENT MOTOR VEHICLE TAXES?If you need a motor vehicle release you will need to pay your taxes in full by cash or money order. If you would like to take care of this through the mail, please send your bills - money order or bank check - self addressed stamped envelope - and a note asking for a motor vehicle release to be sent back to you. If it is necessary to pay the bill(s) with a personal check, you will need to wait 10 business days before we can send you a motor vehicle release.
