Youth Activities

Youth activities are programs for children in the 5-18 age range.  If you see a program that you are interested in, but it has already started or the dates have passed, please contact the Parks & Recreation Department, we may have a new session forming. Classes will not be held if school is closed for a holiday.    Program Supervisor: Darrien Lynn

 

 

  Babysitting Classes-Red Cross (11 years old+)

A comprehensive course that will cover basic care of babies

and children, first aid, safe play, leadership and professionalism.

Successful completion will result in a Red Cross certification. Must be 11

years old to participate.

Class is  limited to 10 participants.

 

   January Class is filled.

 Next Class: March 24th & 25th

       ( Wednesday & Thursday)

Time: 1:00pm-5:00pm ( early release dates)

Location: Canton Community Center

Fee: $95.00 includes Book & DVD

    Spanish Lessons after school!

Age/grade appropriate materials will be provided to each student.

What a great opportunity for kids to learn another language!

This is a 8 week course.

Location: Cherry Brook Primary School

Youth Wrestlers Program (Ages 7+)

 Learn the fundamentals of wresting- basic moves and strategy.

This will teach the kids the physical  and mental toughness

needed to succeed in wrestling. A great sport for off-season

Football players to help with endurance, quickness, balance, etc.

 

Days: Tuesday-Friday eves.

Location: CHS Wrestling Room

Time: 6:30pm-8:30pm

 Little Wrestlers ( Ages 5-12 yrs.)

 

 This program is geared towards young people to learn how their

bodies work and the most basic wrestling techniques to get them

ready for the next level. Instructor:  Bill Phelps.

             Dates: 1/21, 1/26,2/1,2/4,2/8,2/11

snow date 1/25th- make-up 2/11

Karate Program ( Grades 1-6)

Learn the basics of Kempo Karate. Focus on control, defense

and respect. Each new participant will receive a karate

uniform. Students for last Fall are invited back to continue to work

towards their yellow belt. We will form groups by ability.

Dates: 1/6- 2/10

 Valentines Cookie Decorating Class

 This class for grades 1-6 is a fun way to learn how to "outline"

and "flood" cookies! Polka-dotting, feathering and secondary icing

techniques will be shared. Cookies , prepared icing, decorating

sugars and Valentine candies will be provided. Each participant

will take home their beautiful creations in a bakery box.

Min: 5  Max: 15

 After School Mad Science ( Grades K-3)

This will be an exciting program- from planes to trains to

automobiles- check out the science of movement. From the

inner workings of engines, to how your own muscles work to

facilitate movement in your body. Hands on expiriments

which will explore energy, gravity, robotics, pressure and even

life under the sea!


 

 

                         Day: Fridays filled!!!

 Junior Tennis Lessons ( Ages 5-14yrs.)

Lessons for beginners and for more advanced players are offered

through Parks & Recreation with Canton Racquet club. Stroke development,

footwork, and court strategies appropriate for each level.

 

 

Days: Mondays ( ages 5-8 yrs.)

           Wednesdays ( ages 9-14 yrs.)

Dates: Jan. 11th- March 1st

Times: This has been changed. Both days, lessons

will now take place from 5-6pm

 Vacation Camp information:

February Vacation Camp has been cancelled due to Holiday Staffing

issues. Sorry for any inconvenience.

April Vacation Camp ( Grades K-6)

All- Pro is back to facilitate fun games for kids to have fun

and stay active during their vacation. Parents always

give this camp high marks, and kids have a lot of fun!

 

 

April Vacation Dates:

April 19th- April 23rd ( 5 day camp)

Time: 8:30am- 12:00pm

 After School Ski Bus to Ski Sundown

This program begins in January.There is still room to ride on

the Thursday bus if you want to join in. Please call

Parks & Rec for more information.

Time: 2:30pm departs from CMS/CHS

 3:00 pm departs from Canton Comm.Center

Pick up time at CHS is 7:15pm

 

 AAA Student Driver Program

This is a convenient AAA program for students that need

to learn safe driving skills.

Class is held right after school, 2:30pm-4:30pm at CHS in Room 226

All information is available at CHS Main Office.

or your next boss!  This is a must for HS Juniors & Seniors!

We will review: Dress for Success, Interview skills do's & don'ts,

personal presentation skills, confidence, poise and closing the
