5/25/2015 - Memorial Day Parade May 25th

On May 25, 2015 Canton’s First Selectman, Richard Barlow, invites all Town residents to participate in the 2015 Memorial Day Parade.

The Parade will start promptly at 10:00 a.m. at the Canton Intermediate School and work its way through Collinsville ending at the Village Cemetery. A memorial service will take place at the Village Cemetery at the end of the parade. Rev. Linda Spiers of Trinity Episcopal Church will conduct the Invocation and Benediction. Mrs. Leslee Hill, Chair of Canton Board of Education will be the speaker. Bill Gimignani will be the Grand Marshall for this year’s parade; Bill is a World War II Veteran who fought in the battle of Iwo Jima. Students from the Canton School District will present readings and the Canton High School Marching Band will perform.

The Town invites all available Veterans to march in the parade. Veterans that are not up to marching can get a ride in the Parade and will be picked up prior to the event. Please contact the Town’s CAO’s office at (860) 693-7841 if you are interested in participating. Coffee and refreshments will be provided at the Community Center beginning at 8:00 a.m. In particular, the Town is looking for Veterans who may be interested in participating in the Color Guard.
It is important that Veteran’s interested in marching gather at the Community Center by 9:30a.m.; all other groups marching shall gather at the Canton Intermediate School by 9:30 a.m.

Due to the Collinsville Streetscape construction on Main Street, there will be a NEW PARADE ROUTE:

Starting at 10am:  Community Center on Dyer Ave.  South on to Dyer.  Right on to Maple Avenue.  Left on to River Street.  Left on to Main Street.  Right on to Center Street.  Left on to Huckleberry Hill.  End at cemetery.

We hope that everyone gets an opportunity to come out to the parade to honor surviving veterans and all the fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
