10/10/2017 - Solarize Canton is back! Learn more on Oct 10

Solarize Canton is back! The Town of Canton is participating again in the award-winning residential solar program that makes going solar easy and affordable.

Solarize Canton is a coordinated effort across the community, supported by the Town of Canton. Due to the overwhelming interest in the first round, the town opted to offer the program to residents who missed out on the first Solarize program. Through a competitive selection process, the town has selected Ross Solar as their solar installer. Ross Solar will provide the solar installations in Canton at special discount pricing in exchange for enhanced outreach and education from the town.

The Solarize Canton program will host a workshop on Tuesday, October 10, at 7 pm – 8:30 pm, at Canton Senior Center, Room F, 40 Dyer Street, Canton. Residents can learn about the program, be introduced to their solar installer, hear about financing options, and have a chance to learn if their house is good for solar.

Solarize is an award-winning program that increases residential solar through a proven formula. It relies on an on-the-ground outreach campaign provided through the town that helps educate consumers. The pre-selected solar installer means residents are getting high-quality equipment at reduced rates, specifically chosen for Canton residents. Solarize was sparked by The Connecticut Green Bank in Connecticut and is managed by SmartPower (www.smartpower.org).

Canton Energy Committee Chair Robert Namnoun supports the program, “The Town of Canton Energy Committee is pleased to provide a second opportunity for Canton homeowners to participate in the Solarize Program. Canton was one of the previous towns in this valuable program, having participated in the program in 2012. We encourage homeowners to consider joining this important renewal energy source.”

Canton First Selectman Leslee Hill continued, “I am pleased that the Board of Selectmen approved the Energy Committee’s recommendation, and I appreciate the Committee’s efforts in supporting Solarize Canton. As we continue to pursue greater energy efficiency in Town-owned facilities, I hope that interested residents will learn more about this opportunity for their own homes.”

“Connecticut is truly becoming a national leader in solar through the Solarize Connecticut program,” stated Brian F. Keane, President of SmartPower. Working in partnership with the CT Green Bank and Connecticut communities, Solarize Connecticut has helped residential solar grow from less than 900 installations in 2012 to over 22,000 today. We continue to see financing and the Solarize model bringing down the cost of solar and making it affordable for more and more homeowners throughout Connecticut.”

Solarize Canton also offers residents access to financing options that make going solar affordable with no upfront costs. SmartPower, the non-profit that works with the town to offer the Solarize program, has partnered with Dividend Solar to help qualified residents save money with the $0 down financing option. Other financing resources are available through Canton’s solar installer.
