3/21/2017 - Nominations Sought to Celebrate the Strength of Aging

NOMINATIONS SOUGHT IN CANTON TO CELEBRATE THE STRENGTH OF AGING

The town of Canton is seeking nominations for the 2nd annual Older Americans Act Month Award, which will be presented to a Canton resident in the month of May.

The Canton Senior & Social Services Department is currently accepting nominations through Friday, May 19th (deadline) for a Canton resident who exemplifies those ideals illustrated by the National Council on Aging’s annual theme for OLDER AMERICANS ACT MONTH.

This years’ theme is “Age Out Loud”; a theme that provides the opportunity for a Canton resident who does not stay silent and who advocates for themselves or others and who embraces aging and uses their age and wisdom to further their cause and to make their voice louder, to shine. Eligibility criteria are restricted to a Canton residency over the age of 55. Click here for a detailed flyer, including nomination information.

Older Americans Act Month, always in May, celebrates the passage of important legislation that provides funding for life sustaining services for older adults such as Dial A Ride transportation; homecare and case management; and nutrition services like Congregate Meals and Meals On Wheels programs.

This is a co-sponsored award, and will be presented to one Canton Resident on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 12:45pm by the Board of Selectmen, Canton Commission on Aging and Senior & Social Services Department.
